Non-Working Days for Independence Day – May 21 and 22

On the occasion of the upcoming Independence Day holiday, the non-working days will be Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22.

It is important to know who is allowed to work during the holiday, under what conditions, and what obligations employers have towards employees and the competent authorities.

EMPLOYERS’ OBLIGATIONS DURING THE HOLIDAY

• Employers are required to notify the Labor Inspection in advance about the organization of work during the holiday.
• For this purpose, a form (attached) is used and should be sent to the email: milodarka.kuveljic@mrzs.gov.me
• Employees must be informed in a timely manner about their work schedule via the notice board.
• All employees working during the holiday are entitled to an increase of at least 150% of the basic hourly wage.

BAN ON WORK FOR RETAIL FACILITIES

During public holidays, retail facilities are not allowed to operate.

WHO IS ALLOWED TO WORK DURING THE HOLIDAY?

Certain activities may operate, provided that an official notice is sent to the Administration for Inspection Affairs:

• pharmacies,
• specialized shops or kiosks (bakery products, bread, pastries, flowers, souvenirs, press, plant protection products, funeral equipment),
• gas stations and shops within them,
• marketplaces,
• stands, stalls, showcases, and vending machines outside marketplaces,
• shops, kiosks, and vending machines within bus/train stations, airports, and ports,
• stands and kiosks during fairs, events, and public gatherings,
• wholesale warehouses.

Hospitality establishments may also operate during public holidays.

OPERATION OF INSTITUTIONS OF PUBLIC INTEREST

State authorities, local governments, public institutions and companies, as well as other entities of public interest, are obliged to ensure uninterrupted performance of those activities whose suspension could cause harmful consequences for citizens or the state.
