Non-working Days for Independence Day: May 21 and 22

The non-working days for the upcoming Independence Day holiday are Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22.

It is important to know who has the right to work during the holidays, under what conditions, and what obligations employers have towards employees and the relevant authorities. Below is an overview of the key information.

EMPLOYERS' OBLIGATIONS DURING THE HOLIDAYS

• Employers are required to notify the Labor Inspectorate in advance about the organization of work during the holidays. For this purpose, the form attached should be sent to the email address: milodarka.kuveljic@mrzs.gov.me
• Employers are obligated to timely inform employees about the work schedule for the holiday days on the notice board.
• Employees who work during the state holidays are entitled to an increase in their basic hourly salary of at least 150%.

WORK PROHIBITION FOR RETAIL FACILITIES

Retail facilities are not allowed to organize work during state holidays.

WHO HAS THE RIGHT TO WORK DURING THE HOLIDAYS?

Certain activities are allowed to operate during the holidays, provided they send an official letter to the Inspectorate of Labor Affairs. These include:

• Pharmacies
• Specialized stores or kiosks selling bread, bakery products and pastries, flowers, souvenirs, press, plant protection products, or funeral supplies
• Gas stations and retail stores within gas stations
• Markets
• Stalls — stands, display cases, and vending machines outside markets
• Stores, kiosks, and vending machines located within enclosed areas of bus and railway stations, airports, and ports
• Stalls and kiosks selling goods during events, festivals, fairs, and public screenings of cinematographic works
• Wholesale warehouses

Hospitality businesses may organize work during state holidays.

WORK OF INSTITUTIONS OF PUBLIC INTEREST

State bodies, local government bodies, public institutions, public enterprises, and other entities performing activities of public interest are obliged to ensure uninterrupted operation of services during holidays, the interruption of which could cause harmful consequences for citizens or the state.
