If you are planning to start a business or are already operating, as of January 1, 2026, you can expect completely new rules. Montenegro is introducing a modern company registration system through the Central Register of Business Entities (CRPS), and the entire process is moving into the digital world. Here’s what that means in practice.
DIGITALIZATION OF REGISTRATION – LESS PAPERWORK, MORE SPEED
Forget about queues and paperwork. Registration will be carried out exclusively online, using a qualified electronic signature. Documents will be submitted electronically, and if something is missing, you will have the opportunity to supplement them until the day the decision is issued, or you can withdraw your application.
Best of all – the CRPS is obliged to issue a decision within just 3 working days of submitting the application.
COMPANY STATUSES – CLEAR RULES FOR ALL
Each company will have a clearly defined status in the CRPS database:
FASTER CHANGES AND NEW IDENTIFIERS
If you change company data, you must submit an application within 7 days, and the change will only take effect from the day it is entered – no more retroactive entries.
Each company will receive:
Reservation of a company name is still possible and lasts for 90 days.
PUBLIC ACCESS TO DATA
Company data will be publicly available on the CRPS website. You will be able to download electronic copies of documents, certificates, and extracts – except those issued before January 2012. All data will be public, except for personal data, which must be protected.
The new law brings a digital revolution to doing business. Faster registration, clear statuses, and complete data transparency will mean fewer complications and more time for what matters most – growing your business.
