Faster Payments for Everyone – CBCG Extends Operating Hours of the Payment System

The Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) has extended the operating hours of its payment system, meaning that money transfers will be faster and funds will be available in the recipient’s account on the same day.

WHAT ARE THE KEY CHANGES?

• Extended operation of the RTGS system (Real-Time Gross Settlement) – transfers over 1,000 EUR will reach the recipient’s account immediately until 8:00 PM on business days.
• Extended operation of the DNS system (Deferred Net Settlement) – transfers up to 1,000 EUR will be processed in six daily clearing cycles instead of the previous three, allowing faster fund availability.

• Faster access to transferred funds for citizens.
• More efficient planning and fulfillment of obligations for businesses.
• Quicker inflow of funds for sectors such as tourism and e-commerce.

Starting from October 20, 2025, CBCG will expand the payment system’s operation to weekends and public holidays, allowing payment transactions to be processed continuously throughout the year. This is an important step towards the introduction of the TIPS Clone system, which from July 2026 will enable citizens and businesses to send and receive payments in real-time, 24/7, from anywhere.

This is part of a broader project to modernize Montenegro’s payment system, aligning domestic payment traffic with European Union standards and best international practices.
