Did you know that being registered as an employee does not automatically mean you are registered for health insurance?
In Montenegro, employees must register with the Health Insurance Fund after starting a new job or changing employers.
WHY IS SEPARATE REGISTRATION REQUIRED?
As of January 1, 2022, the health insurance registration procedure has changed.
Previously, employee information was automatically exchanged between the Tax Administration and the Health Insurance Fund. However, following legislative amendments, this automatic exchange of information was discontinued.
This means that even if an employer has properly registered an employee for employment, the employee must still register separately for health insurance.
WHO NEEDS TO REGISTER FOR HEALTH INSURANCE?
You need to register for health insurance if you have:
WHERE AND HOW TO REGISTER?
The procedure is simple. You need to visit the nearest branch of the Health Insurance Fund of Montenegro and bring a valid identification document.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CHECK YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE STATUS?
If you have recently started a new job or changed employers, do not assume that your health insurance registration has been automatically completed.
Check your status with the Health Insurance Fund to avoid potential problems when accessing healthcare services.
